Focus Areas

Where digital justice matters most

ADiJUST concentrates its research, advocacy, and litigation on three interconnected areas where technology most directly shapes rights and lives across Africa.

Health
01

Health

Rights-based digital health governance so technology strengthens the right to health.

Digital technologies are transforming health systems across Africa through electronic health records, telemedicine, artificial intelligence, mobile health applications, wearable devices, and digital public health infrastructure. While these innovations offer unprecedented opportunities to improve access to quality healthcare, they also introduce complex challenges relating to privacy, health data governance, algorithmic bias, cybersecurity, cross-border data transfers, and accountability.

ADiJUST works to ensure digital transformation strengthens, rather than undermines, the right to health, promoting rights-based digital health governance through research, policy and legislative reform, strategic litigation, advocacy, and capacity strengthening.

SRHR
02

SRHR

Protecting privacy, consent, and bodily autonomy as technology reshapes reproductive health.

From menstrual health applications and fertility platforms to telemedicine and artificial intelligence, digital innovation has expanded access to sexual and reproductive healthcare while creating new risks relating to privacy, surveillance, discrimination, misinformation, and the misuse of sensitive personal data. These risks disproportionately affect women, young people, and marginalized communities.

Through research, advocacy, strategic litigation, policy engagement, and community empowerment, ADiJUST promotes frameworks that protect privacy, strengthen informed consent, promote equitable access, and ensure that digital technologies respect human dignity and bodily autonomy.

Sustainable Development
03

Sustainable Development

Inclusive, rights-based digital progress aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Digital transformation is reshaping every aspect of sustainable development, from education and healthcare to agriculture, climate action, financial inclusion, governance, and public service delivery. Yet digital progress is only meaningful when it is inclusive, rights-based, and responsive to Africa’s unique social, economic, and cultural realities.

ADiJUST works with governments, civil society, academia, the private sector, and communities to develop laws, policies, and governance frameworks that ensure digital technologies contribute to inclusive growth, environmental sustainability, social justice, and accountable institutions, so that Africa’s digital transformation leaves no one behind.

Health

Health & Digital Health

We champion rights-based digital health governance so that technology strengthens, rather than undermines, the right to health. As health systems digitise, we work to ensure privacy, consent, and accountability are built in from the start, and that sensitive health data is protected across borders.

Sexual & Reproductive Health & Rights

Digital technologies can expand access to SRHR information and services, but they also create new risks to privacy, autonomy, and confidentiality. We protect bodily autonomy and consent as technology reshapes reproductive health, placing intimate health data at the centre of digital-rights protection.

SRHR
Sustainable Development

Sustainable Development

We pursue inclusive, rights-based digital progress aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring that automation and data-driven systems improve services without obscuring how decisions are made or who bears responsibility when harm occurs.
