Digital technologies are transforming health systems across Africa through electronic health records, telemedicine, artificial intelligence, mobile health applications, wearable devices, and digital public health infrastructure. While these innovations offer unprecedented opportunities to improve access to quality healthcare, they also introduce complex challenges relating to privacy, health data governance, algorithmic bias, cybersecurity, cross-border data transfers, and accountability.

From menstrual health applications and fertility platforms to telemedicine and artificial intelligence, digital innovation has expanded access to sexual and reproductive healthcare while creating new risks relating to privacy, surveillance, discrimination, misinformation, and the misuse of sensitive personal data. These risks disproportionately affect women, young people, and marginalized communities.
